CARD 40 – TINKERS-EVERS-CHANCE
So adept were the Cub infielders at turning the double play that the trio was immortalized in the poem “Baseball’s Sad Lexicon”, which began: “These are the saddest of possible words, Tinkers to Evers to Chance…” The three were inducted the same year in 1946.
